I need your help. So, Chad's been asking me for a while what I want/want to do for mother's day. I lost my calendar so I had no idea that this Sunday is mother's day. I also have no idea what I want or want to do. Seriously, does it have to be that big of a deal? Because if Chad makes it a big deal, then I have to do something for father's day. I'm the kinda person who doesn't give out Christmas cards, asks everyone I send a shower gift to to please not send me a thank you card. Simplify people, right? Isn't it enough I have two beautiful babies? Maybe all I want for mother's day is to not have to do anything for father's day. But what do you think? I'm asking you, "What do I want I for mother's day?"
P.S. Don't say, "a spa day", because I don't want that. Oh, and I also don't do jewelry. The top response will get a prize. This is my pay it forward prize for winning Leah's prize. I don't know when you'll get it or what it will be yet, but oh yes, you will get a prize.

I've been wondering the same thing. How about a romantic dinner at home after the kids are in bed, or a day to sleep in as long as you want, or a day to go shopping ALONE, or a long love letter, or a foot rub (from Chad, not a spa:)
I have endless ideas really...my problem isn't what I want...it's what do I want most? I can only pick one? dang it!.
xo
Amber, you are so great!! I love and admire your ability to simplify and find joy in the things that are really important.
Our anniversary is often on Mother's Day weekend so it's kinds of a double celebration. (by the way, we'll be married 10 years on Sunday!!!) The BEST gift by far has been plants/vegetables/herbs/fruit starts/etc. for our garden. Every year it's been so incredibly meaningful for us to plant these in the garden and have them sustain our family all summer and into fall. Even better is when the kids have given them to us. They get so excited when those plants they give produce something mom enjoys such as spinach, lettuce, lavender, sage.
My favorite things are sleeping in and not having to cook all day. That's means breakfast, lunch and dinner. I also like to have my kids draw me pictures.
I think my fav mothers day so far was breakfast in bed from the kids and then cards from them with handprints inside. Something tangible for me to remember that mothers day and them.
hey... Yeah it was a nerve, I actually went to the chiro, as I felt my back was out, it hurt, but after he adjusted me,,, I could not walk.. yeah.. he should have asked more questions.. and did xrays... oh well.. I had a heriated disc, that was bluging so badly on the nerve I was comptely numb, I was starting to loose feeling in both legs, I was really scared. So I went to the er, and they just admited me.. So glad, I found out more then I wanted... but Feeling so much better.. Bodies are so complex.. You guys look so cute. I heard the AWESOME news about being sealed with noelle! I am SO So happy for you guys! All that stress and now its over!! Yippie! Sure wish we lived closer..
Take care...
Andrea
I'm in shock that it's Mother's Day on Sunday!! Really. . . where did the time fly and how did we arrive in May? I'm still stuck in March (as you can see from my Blog) though I'm trying to find my way to the present.
I guess the first thing in my mind was to gix dinner (though that was a given in my house growing up). How about all the laundry done, folded, and put away (I think I remember you saying you hate to fold it.) What about sleeping in, breakfast in bed, and a new book to read? Those are my thoughts (sorry if I doubled up on what someone else said but I didn't take the time to read through their responses). Whatever it is you decided to tell him I hope he's satisfied with giving you a worthy gift and you don't feel guilt driven to have to do something you don't want to for Father's Day.
I'm with Days, sleeping in is always nice, and to be complimented more than usual. I think I am also asking for photo equipment. But no flowers or anything like that. I hate getting those floweres that the youth passes out after sacrament meeting...is that bad?
I think you should have Chad arrange a memory for your family. For example...When we used to live in a house with a fireplace we used to have "camp-outs" inside. We would line up all of our pillows and blankets in the living room, build a nice big fire, and turn out all the lights. Then we would roast marshmallows, eat s'mores, and sing camp/primary songs. Then we'd all lay down and take turns telling stories until all of the kids would fall asleep. It was all the fun of camping without the NW rain, bugs, slugs, dirt, and port-a-potties! We love looking back and remembering this old-fashioned, one-on-one family time together. The other thing you can do is have Chad put together a Mommy Book for you. I've done this for Brandon for Father's Day before. He just needs to compile some pages together with leading questions that the kids answer. "I love Mommy because...", "I love when Mommy plays ________ with me", "Mommy looks prettiest when..." etc. Then have the kids draw pictures for each question, and fasten it all together. It's really fun to do this yearly, and see how the answers and illustrations change as the kids get older. Happy Mother's Day!
I took my kiddos to the local pottery studio and let them pick a piece to glaze for Grandma. I wouldn't mind getting something like that for myself, but obviously I couldn't have them do it while I was there. They really enjoyed it too. Hope you figure out what it is you really like, I agree, just being a mother is the a great gift.
I'm a picture person, so how about having Chad get a picture of him and the kids for you? I know you do photography, but maybe it'd be cool to have a nice picture without having to do the work?
Hubby and kids do all the cleaning on Saturday night while I read a book at the park. Also, no mothers are allowed to do dishes on Sunday.
To me mothers day and fathers' day is an opportunity for the kids and spouse to show their appreciation... so letting them cook or do the dishes is a good thing(obviously the little ones aren't quite capable of that yet). And honestly it's all about family... so go for a picnic in a park that you haven't gone to for a long time, make your favorite meal together or try a new recipe and have a candle light dinner, or go the a place the whole family would enjoy... go on a walk by yourself and ponder on the blessings we have for being a mother. Personally, I LOVE naps... it's rejuvinating, so maybe that could be something. It doesn't have to be something big... simple but meaningful. :)
i am the same as your friend, our anniversary is the 12th always close to mother's day. i want some perfume. it's all i can think of. i have great ideas along the way but always forget when it comes time, that's for giving and for getting.
i never know what to get for father's day, and for my mother and MIL. STRESS! always good to go homemade. really i don't know what to ask for. i'd say a night out is great.
Hi Amber!!! Remember me from Blue Lake Ward? If you email me I'll invite you to our blog; cherynbejar@gmail.com
I'm going to say you should be treated like a Queen on Sunday. (A humble queen of course but queen nonetheless!) This should entitle you to sleeping in until your heart's content, meals made by other people for the day and lots of love (gifts optional). How simple and precious is that?! That is what I always want...one day each year I just want to enjoy the perks of my family without any grunt work. It'll be back to the grind Monday though ;P
Hey Amber--
This is fun! I'm always game for just having a relaxing day without having to cook or do dishes. And I get to choose dinner! Ben just asked me what I wanted for Mothers Day. I unexoectedly ended up having to buy a new sewing machine to finish my quilt (it was fairly cheap one, $100) so I counted that as my present. And last year he bought some plants for the porch and yard, which would've been my last choice, but it turned out ok. I would have never got them otherwise!
How about this - you can go online to modbe or layers or shade and pick out one item of your choice. Do I get the prize?
